For those guests wishing to arrive by water, transient boat slips are available at the Gratitude Marina, a few steps from the Old Gratitude House on the bay. Fishing charters on the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding rivers can be arranged with sufficient advance notice, as well as longer bareboat charters. Many of our guests really enjoy a sailboat cruise on the Bay, especially at sunset.

Gratitude House guests enjoy free use of Heritage kayaks to explore nearby Tavern and Swan Creeks. Shallow depths and minimal development attracts large numbers of herons, swans and other natural wildlife. Kent County has 30 public launch ramps, if you want to explore the Chester River and other nearby areas. (Map provided courtesy of Chester River Kayak Adventures)

Visit the Eastern Neck National Wildlife Refuge. This unspoiled island, located only 15 minutes from Gratitude, features much of the habitat diversity characteristic of the Chesapeake region, from pine forests to meadows to tidal wetlands. The wetland-fringed shoal waters are teeming with ducks, geese, tundra swans and other migrating waterfowl, and three pair of American Bald Eagles make the heavier treed areas their home.
The Kent County Bird Club of the Maryland Ornithological Society promotes recreational and social events, education programs and an information exchange. This includes sponsoring numerous field trips between September and June each year. Ask us about our special birding package.
